What to Expect
Once you decide to seek help, selecting a mental healthcare provider that is a good fit can be an overwhelming and confusing task. In light of this, CBTCOA is happy to provide some clarity about our clinical style and approach.
Thank you for considering working with Dr. Cooper in making this next big step towards change and progress.
Dr. Cooper’s clinical work is based in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), where she integrates highly effective science backed treatment delivered with compassion. She moves beyond “talk therapy” and focuses on helping empower patients to face challenges and make actionable changes in their life.
Dr. Cooper incorporates transparency, directness, warmth and humor. She believes strongly in educating patients so they understand key elements of working together, such as how their symptoms may have been maintained and how they can be addressed. She explains why specific treatments are incorporated, and how such treatments are best implemented for improvements.
Her approach is very collaborative and welcoming, and patients often make significant gains when they are active and engaged participants along the way working as a team to make progress towards goals. Dr. Cooper believes people who seek treatment for anxiety and engage in this work together are incredibly strong and courageous, and she finds it incredibly rewarding to see their hard work and dedication pay off as they move towards the life they want.
Dr. Cooper’s goal in working with patients is to give them the knowledge and tools to achieve significant and desired improvement and to gain confidence and continue to apply these skills on their own in the future, as needed. Her treatment approach is time-limited, present-focused, has structure and follows evidence-based treatments used to successfully treat many people with anxiety who consistently put in the work with treatment.
She also individually tailors treatment to patients based on each person’s own unique situation and difficulties, as well as the goals that brought them to treatment. Relatedly, she incorporates assessment and solicits feedback from patients to make sure progress is being made and adapt when necessary to make sure we are both confident in the treatment approach and improvements.
Dr. Cooper finds her work with patients immensely rewarding and she loves what she does. She hopes to work together as you take your next steps forward towards the relief you seek and the life you want to live!
